Vector tiles with the Shortbread schema

In 2022, Geofabrik released a vector tile schema called "Shortbread", under the CC-0 lience (for the schema) and FTWPL (for its implementation).
This talk briefly discusses the motivation for developing an additional schema from scratch. It then presents the schema itself and the toolchain used at Geofabrik to generate world-wide vector tile sets with Tilemaker, on machines with no more than 128 GB of RAM.
The talk also presents a method of using vector tiles as Mapnik data source. This is a workflow we use at Geofabrik to produce server-side raster tiles from vector tile data sources, in order to support older clients.
