Every now and then people express concerns that part of the OpenStreetMap data might get vandalized. While both the majority of those unhelpful edits are rather incompetence than malice and they account olny for a small part of all new users, a discussion on community.osm.org about limits for new accounts found a lot of attention. However, the discussion has shown that people there had no idea about the real numbers.

We will look into actual behaviour of new accounts within the first hour, the first 24 hours, and the first 30 days of activity by applying various metrics. This should help to get any future such discussion sufficiently evidence based.
