Quantifying Europe’s Cycling Infrastructure Using OpenStreetMap
Aleksander Buczyński
There is great demand for data on cycling infrastructure, but currently no official source provides this kind of information on a European scale. The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) strives to fill the gap by extracting cycling infrastructure data from OpenStreetMap (OSM). In the Quantifying Europe’s Cycling Infrastructure Using OpenStreetMap (QECIO) dashboard we present the length of six different types of cycling infrastructure across 37 European countries and 1502 regions (level 3 of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics). We also quantify the availability of additional data about cycling infrastructure and several specific parameters, such as uptake of contraflow cycling.
